A Chicago meteorologist was pleasantly surprised when he discovered that the screen he used daily to display local weather was actually an interactive touchscreen.
Greg Dutra, who worked as a meteorologist and meteorologist for ABC 7 Chicago for three years, made the startling discovery live during a Thursday morning show.
While showing local residents the predicted rain on his map, Dutra accidentally touched the screen, moving it slightly, causing him to exclaim, “Oh, I moved the map! I can do it?’
“No way,” Dutra said as he continued to play with the map moving it around. Val Warner, another news anchor, not seen on camera, asked Dutra if he “just found that out?”
ABC 7 Chicago weatherman Greg Dutra discovered to his delight that the screen he works with every day to display the weather was actually an interactive touchscreen capable of zooming and tilting.
Dutra has worked for the station for three years, according to his LinkedIn profile. After posting the wholesome clip on Twitter, it garnered over a million views
Another morning news anchor, Terrell Brown, then jumped out of his seat, saying he “has got to try this”.
Brown walked over to Dutra, who can’t get rid of his huge grin, and moved his fingers across the touchscreen while squealing in delight.
As if that couldn’t get any more exciting for Dutra, he then asked, “Can I zoom in?” before using his fingers to zoom in on a specific location on the map, which made Brown double laugh when Dutra announced, “It’s a beautiful day!”
The meteorologist then tries to get back on track and tells the audience “temperatures are warming up nicely this afternoon” while grinning from ear to ear.
But Dutra’s other morning news crew had other plans, again asking him how he “didn’t know that”, to which the exhausted meteorologist replied, “I’ve never touched that before!”
Dutra then discovered another feature by swiping the screen and learned that you can tilt the aerial view provided by the map.
‘Oh my God! can you tilt it?! What is happening here?’ he asked before snapping back to reality and the live show he was presenting.
Dutra posted the clip on Twitter and joked, “It wasn’t in the training manual!” as he admitted he had “gone off the rails” in the sound clip.
The clip garnered over 1.3 million views on Twitter.
While many Twitter users take advantage of a viral tweet for their own gain, Dutra simply stated, “I have nothing to sell or plug in except be nice to those around you. Everyone goes through something.
